Echidnas are spikey egg laying animals called monotremes. Monotremes are warm blooded mammals that feed their young with milk, but lay eggs. There are only three kinds of monotremes in the world. They are the platypus from Australia, the short beak echidna from Australia and the long beak echidna from Papua New Guinea.
